Whereabouts of a Will
« on: Tuesday 25 September 12 09:59 BST (UK) »
Could someone advise where I might stand the best chance of finding the Will for an ancestor, Thomas Meeosn, who died in Hull on 23 Aug 1857?
Would it be the York Sub-Registry or would I have to look elsewhere?

I'd try:

Borthwick Institute for Archives,
University of York,
Heslington,
York, YO10 5DD, UK

Email: bihr500@york.ac.uk.

I've always found them very helpful with old wills.  I usually send them an e-mail asking if they have the will I want and how much it will cost.  If they've not got it they offer suggestions as to where it might be.

ps.  Should have said their website states

"Yorkshire Probate Records, before 1858.  The Borthwick holds the vast majority of probate records for Yorkshire before January 1858".
