Sir Thomas Turnbull
« on: Wednesday 26 September 12 18:15 BST (UK) »
Hello All,
Can anyone tell me when Sir Thomas Turnbull, who lived in the 16th C,  was born/died, please? I think he may have been from Bedrule. Also, who did he marry?

Cheers,
Bob

If you can find a copy of George Tancred's Rulewater and Its People, 1907, you'll find quite a bit on the Turnbulls. I've had a look at my copy and can't find the answers to your questions, but it's well worth a read anyway.

Thanks Alan, but I only had the briefest info - ie that a character named Sir Thomas Turnbull lived in the 16th C. I don't think there were numerous knighted Sir Thomas Turnbulls, so any info on any of that name in the 16th C would be of interest.
Cheers,
Bob

I've had a look through Rule and its people and few other books about area and the follow info has shown up - it may be a long shoot and may be the Thomas your are looking for

Sit Thomas Turnbull (bedrule) had sons Walter (who second wife was Helen Lillico - there had a son called Thomas who died at Bedrule Mill) and Thomas also a daug called Margaret (who married Edward Lorrane and lived a Harwood)

Also Turnbull's lived a Harwood for years - Templehall & Brewlands were portions of Harwood

Also it is suggested that Sir Thomas Turnbull may have been married Janet the widow of Philip Bennett of Chesters (Janet and Philip had child caled Mungo)

hope this helps

As one Turnbull to other - best of luck
