Hi Allison

If you want to go further back, FreeREG and BathBMD are good sources for Bath records.

BathBMD gives the registration of Austin and Janet, showing that their mother's maiden name was Careley.

Bath Birth indexes for the years: 1854
Surname   Forename(s)   Sub-District   Registers At   Mother's Maiden Name   Reference
KIRKHAM   Austin   Abbey   Bath   CARELERY   ABB/11/346
KIRKHAM   Mary Jeannette   Abbey   Bath   CARELEY   ABB/11/347

There were two Francis's registered around 1848/9

Bath Birth indexes for the years: 1848
Surname   Forename(s)   Sub-District   Registers At   Mother's Maiden Name   Reference
KIRKHAM   Francis   Bathwick   Bath   HIGGINSON   BWK/4/119

Bath Birth indexes for the years: 1849
Surname   Forename(s)   Sub-District   Registers At   Mother's Maiden Name   Reference

KIRKHAM   Francis Xavier   Bathwick   Bath   CARELEY   BWK/4/280

The second has the same mother, and it fits with your Francis having second name Xavier.

There are no earlier births registered at Bath to the same couple, and no sign of Agnes Kirkham c1843 anywhere in the country. There's something odd going on there, could the older children be from a different marriage, or illegitimate? Have you found the family in 1841?

This looks like William, baptised in 1816 but 8 years old, and with father a lodging house keeper.

The father had three wives, trace him further with FreeREG.

In 1841 William and Sarah are at Cornwall Buildings, Walcot, Bath with son William aged 7.

This must be his baptism

and another daughter

Can't find their marriage though.

Hi Allison

There's a possible baptism on the Freereg site: -

25/03/1816 William Kirkham Son of Thomas Bullman Kirkham & Mary, Bathwick St Mary.

William is aged 8, the address is Pultney St & his father is a lodging house keeper.

Best wishes

Hi Allison

Sorry me again. Also found these marriage records: -

First marriage for Thomas B to Mariane Moore of St Michael’s parish in 1801 at Bathwick.

In 1810 Thomas B (parish register notes B = Bullman) marries Ann Gardiner at Bathwick. He is a widower.

There’s a third marriage for Thomas Bullman Kirkham in 1820 at Bathwick St Mary. He’s a widower, married by licence to Jane Harriet Phillpot of Walcot parish, witnesses James & Ann Biggs.

Death for Thomas Bulman Kirkham 05/08/1845 aged 65 (YOB 1780) Bathampton from the NBI.

best wishes

Maria  :)

i understand this thread is quite old, but if Alison is still active i'd love to hear from you.
Thomas Bullman Kirkham is my 5th great grandfather - and i'm trying to decipher some information in the line.

I believe Wililam Bailey Kirkham is his father, but then after that i have conflicting information.

All hints on ancestry.com are sending me to Samuel Kirkham & Elizabeth Legg as his parents, but other sources are telling me he was actually Thomas (Samuels brother) and Elizabeth Bayley?

I'm going round in circles and finding it hard to know where to find more sources as i'm based in Australia.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Kim
