1841 has a Charles Milcher ( 25 yrs) with mother Mary (55 yrs) in Finedon.

USA Census 1850 has Stephen (32 yrs)  and Mary (33 yrs) Miller and family close to the Mitchells.

USA Census 1860 has a Stephen Miller 63 yrs in Scott Illinois  :-\ (Not much info in 1860 on Family Search)

Usa census 1870 has Stephen Miller 73 yrs with Charles Mitchell and family.

Hi Heywood.

I noticed them too.  :)

Mary says not of the County and then in 1851 and 1861 she says she
is of Finedon and then Spalding, Lincs.

There is certainly on the I.G.I. baptisms for a Charles and Joseph in
1815 and 1809 in Spalding.

This is amazing everyone!!! thanks so much for your help - this filled in so many missing pieces and I'm sure will help others researching the family (my family tree is public on ancestry.com so others can benefit)... still no closer to finding out what that Z stood for in John's name but the roots in Finedon and all these names you all have come up with are hugely valuable!!! Really appreciate it - and I'll check out Spalding...

So perhaps Lancashire/Lancastershire was Lincolnshire?

I had been thinking it could be Leicestershire but Sandy's finds look very possible.

There are other children in Spalding.

John in 1808, another possible Charles in 1812 and a Sarah in 1813,
Rebecca in 1817.

I have just found Sarah and Rebecca's marriage details so will post in a mo.
