Maybe Nottsgirl could kindly have a look to see what the mothers name on the baptism is when she next visits the archives. I am not sure why you think there are 2 Mary Severn(s) baptised in the same place on the same day.


I would be wondering why a Derbyshire man and a Nottinghamshire woman should have married in Leicester?

I found the baptisms on FindMyPast one was Mary Severn the other was Mary Severns and the two different sets of parents.
The reason for the marriage in Leicester, I thought William had probably just finished an apprenticeship in joinery this being family memories, but your query got me doing some more sleuthing. There was already a William Goodall in Leicester who was a joiner and in some relationship with Daniel Knight, a builder in that city, so now I have more trails to follow.

Hi,

Well I've had a look at the actual Greasley Church record in Nottingham Archives and there was only one child christened on 22 Sept 1811  and that was Mary Severns daughter of John and Amy and it doesn't say of where. I wasnt able to get a copy as the copying machine was working but can get it next time I go(week after next) if you want one.

Thank you  Nottsgirl. Since there is only one Mary baptized at that time, I think she is probably the Mary that is buried at the beginning of January 1812 aged 19 weeks. This suggests that she is not my Mary so I will have to look further.
Thank you for the offer to get a copy, at the moment it doesn't seem to have relevance so I will decline your kind offer.

I am wondering if you sorted out which Mary Severn was yours. I have been researching my family for 20 years and have had a brick wall on one line, and I think I may have broken it. I did my DNA and the name that is common in several of my matches is Severn. My ancestor's name was Mary but unfortunately, I don't know her maiden name. Different censuses has her born from 1805 to 1811 in Nottinghamshire. She met her partner John Rudd and had several children from 1834. But I don't think they married, as he was already married. One of her son was James Rudd whom came to Australia and on his marriage certificate, it listed his mother as Mary Sullivan. Sounds similar.  .
I am trying to eliminate each Mary Severn to come up with a possible match.

I have research on Severn's too, a Staffordshire line, but just to warn you Lisa that besides Sullivan variants are also  SEAVERN/E  and SIVORN which I have seen transcribed as SWORN, but also as DIXON  (It did look a bit like Dixon
