Tinkler family of Portnahinch & Coolbanagher
« on: Monday 01 October 12 02:12 BST (UK) »
Greetings I am searching for information about my Irish Tinkler family. Usher Tinkler born between 1815 to 1820 in Dublin to parents George Tinkler (farmer) & Ann Green.

Usher's death certificate it states he was born Dublin and his religion was Church of England.

Usher Tinkler named his new home in Australia Portnahinch after the place he live in Ireland. He was the only family member that we know of who came to Australia in 1841.

Were there any other siblings? I am guessing the Tinkler's may have originally come from England and settled in Ireland at some point in time.

The Tinkler's were farmers and later lived around Portnahinch & Coolbanagher area in Laois/Queens Co.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards,
Stephen

a little later than your Tinkler family ... on Griffith's Valuation in Co. Laois in 1851, there was just one Tinkler household listed. An Anne Tinkler with a house, offices and small garden  in the townland of Tinnakill in Ardea civil parish. (Offices is the term used on Griffiths for workshops, stables etc)

see : Tinkler, Co. Laois

Hi

With such unusual christian and surnames, I wonder if Usher Tinkler, who with his wife Mary Hagerty had sons born 1870 and 1872 in Rathangan, Co Kildare, wasn't a nephew of your Usher Tinkler.

Cheers

www.familysearch.org shows the marriage of Usher Tinkler and Mary Hagerty in Rathangan  on 5 May 1854.   William Tinkler is recorded as Usher's father.

Cheers

G'day shanew147 & LH, thanks very much for your quick reply.

shanew147 the information you discovered on Ann Tinkler is very likely to be Usher's mother.
I wonder what years George & Ann died in Tinnakill.
Usher's Australian death certificate states his father George was a farmer, so the workshop/stables makes sense.

LH you are right, it is a very unusual name and again very likely there is some link to the later "nephew" Tinkler's at Rathangan, Co Kildare.

Appreciate all your help.

Kind regards,
Stephen

Hi!
Just to add to the confusion, a daughter of Usher TINKLER of Rathangan, Co Kildare, Ann Eliza TINKLER, born about 1838 Ireland, married Richard FORGIE on 04 Apr 1861, in Auckland New Zealand. The wedding was announced in The New Zealander' on 06 Apr 1861 ( see paperspastNZ).
Ann Eliza FORGIE, nee TINKLER, died 16 Oct 1925 at her home in Pakuranga, Auckland NZ in her 87th year. ( see Findagrave)
There is a Tree online that states Usher TINKLER was born about 1804/6 and married twice..1st to Mary DEMPSEY who must have died before 1854 and 2ndly to Mary Hegarty in 1854 and produced even more children. If so, Usher TINKLER's father was William ( as per the 2nd marriage record).
Don't know if this helps but it would be interesting to see if any descendants have any DNA matches..on either side of the ditch!
