1851 Census...need some fresh eyes !COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 04 October 12 16:33 BST (UK) »
I have Elizabeth Theep (Keep) married to David Theep (Keep)
living in Wooton, Bedfordshire,with:-
Sarah Theep daugh 4
Thomas Theep son 1
and
Martha Wickham 7 daugh-in-law whose spouse is Thomas Theep ? !

Is this an early "arramged marriage ?"   or is Martha a child of Elizabeth, or is she Elizabeth's younger sister ??

Elizabeth, Martha and Sarah were born in Sherrington, and others in Wooton Beds.

Trying to find Elizabeth's maiden name.

Welsh Terrier. ???

Martha Wickham 7 daugh-in-law whose spouse is Thomas Theep? !

Daughter in law was an often-used euphemism for Step daughter.

freeBMD shows David Keep + on the same page Elizabeth Whickham married 4 quarter 1845, Newport Pagnell 6, 756

Martha Wickham gave her father's name as Jesse Wickham when she married Joel Hine at Wootton.  This is confirmed by FamilySearch, which gives the baptism of Martha Wickham to Jesse and Elizabeth Wickham at Sherington, 19th March 1843.

Jesse and Elizabeth Wickham are at Great Linford, Bucks in the 1841 census with a son Edward of 10 months.

FamilySearch gives the marriage of Jesse Wickam to Elizabeth West at Sherington , 10th Nov 1839.

Her date of baptism is correct to the actual register which also states the Jesse is deceased

Thank-you all very much indeed.

I assume the fact that Martha's spouse is Thomas Theep is an error ?

Where did you find the information that Martha's spouse is Thomas?

Thomas is shown on the census as David's son.

Martha is shown as David's daughter in law, which, as we've shown, in this case means step-daughter.

 Hi

the error is in the transciption. It does list Martha as spouse to Thomas but the transcriber seems to be unfamiliar with the term daughter in law in how it was used in this case. Always refer to the original.
