Egan from Roscommon
« on: Tuesday 09 October 12 20:22 BST (UK) »
Hi guys, i'm hunting for a relative but have very little to go on. His name was Michael Egan (sometimes spelt Michal) born in Roscommon between 1851-1861.

I know that in 1881 he was married and living in Oldham, Lancashire (at 30 Factory Fold) and that hes listed on the census as a bricklayers labourer.

He married Ann McDonnell (i think) whilst in Ireland but other than this i dont know anything about his parents or siblings and after 1901 he dissapears off the radar - i cant find him buried anywhere in Oldham or the surrounding areas so think he may have moved back to Ireland or may have been sent back for burial.

Can anyone help at all, I know this is a big ask.

Thanks, Luke

This is the family in 1881 Link to record

Looking at this Mary Ann born Sligo in 1862 was Ann Egan's child from a possible first marriage which would mean McDonnell was a married rather than a maiden name

As the three Egan children are 8, 7 & 4 we can assume Michael and Anne married before the birth of James in 1873 which narrows their marriage to between 1862 and 1873

There is a birth record for Maria Egan in the Prestwich district which looks accurate and would give Ann's maiden name to work with

There is a public tree on a****y that has details for the same family but it doesn't read as accurate but family's are funny! Many of the siblings attached to Michael are much younger and all including Michael died in Australia but it's worth a look

Link to son Henry James EGAN on 1891 census still living with parents Michael and Anne and sisters Catherine and Maria/Mary

Looks like Henry may have emigrated to the US in 1894 - LINK, however there is also a marriage in 1895 in Oldham of a Henry J EGAN

Hi

just to say that the other thread

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,618930.msg4678256.html#msg4678256

has possibilities for Michael's death.  (The other one was answered more quickly  :))

Also, myluck, there is a possibility for a Mary Ann MCDonnell birth in Sligo. :-\

regards
heywood

Following from Heywood's reference

There is a birth online on familysearch.org for a Maria Anna McDONNELL
to Michaelis McDONNELL & Annae WARD
born 08 Nov 1861 baptised 30 Nov 1861; Calry, Sligo

There is also a marriage of Michaelus McDANNIEL to Anna WARD
on 18 Feb 1860 in Roman Catholic, Calry, Sligo

If the later children with Michael EGAN in Oldham show Ann's maiden name as WARD there may be a connection

Hi Guys, im now in a position to confirm that Ann Egan is listed as being formerly WARD on one of her childrens birth certificates so this looks like the right one.

Can anybody see a death registered for Michael McDonnell at all that may fit in?
