William Squires Holmes
« on: Friday 12 October 12 15:07 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am finding it very difficult to find out any information about the above.  I do have a parish record of birth/baptism in Swineshead, Lincolnshire, giving his parents as Charles and Jane Holmes in 1823.  It gives the father's occupation as groom and abode as Linger House, Swineshead.
I have been unable to find out any reference to a Linger House in Swineshead, so if anyone can help with that I would appreciate it.
Also the parish record is the only record I have been able to find for William Squires Holmes.  If anyone can point me in the right direction on this as well I would be more than happy.

Regards
Barbara Ann

Good Morning Barbara Ann

I found a Linger House Swineshead in 1841 H0107 611 Bk11 Dist1 Pg1 unfortunately it looks as though it is occupied by John Hanger and family however also on this page is a family of Holmes living at Abbey Lane ..........

Thomas Holmes 35 Farmer
Elizabeth Holmes 75
Elizabeth Holmes 40
All three not born in County

Maybe relatives, not sure but thought worthy of a mention

Regards

Z :)

After much searching, I've now found Linga Ho. on 1824 O.S. map :)

It was here www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=525800&y=333659&z=120

but is not found on 1889 map http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=525810,333657 :(
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

There is a reference to Lingerhouse (all one word) in this document - http://www.archive.org/stream/cu31924014023893/cu31924014023893_djvu.txt

Also in the newspaper archive, which refers to a toll gate - http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results?basicsearch=lingerhouse

The 1841 census mentions the toll, and Linger House looks like an area rather than a building.

Many thanks for all the help you have provided me with this.  It gets quite addictive when trying to piece together family history, you find yourself wanting to know the littlest bit of detail.

I am still hoping that someone might point be in the right direction regarding William as he seems to have disappeared after his birth.

Just a little note, I also asked for help regarding his brother Drewry Charles Holmes and have put some information on that query if anyone is interested.

Once again, this site has proved a massive help in my search and I thank you all again.

Note that the two or three houses before it in the 1841 were "Roman Bank".
