Wow!  :) Thank you for your amazing information, while I was asleep on the other side of the world you were very busy.

I believe that the St Chads baptisms of Ann, Robert, John and Emma are the family I am looking for, more recent generations also married and baptized children at the same church.

The marriage to Mary Standring also looks right too, and christening at Wardleworth of John to John and Fanny.

Thank you for your help.  Where is Buersill?

It's a few miles south of Rochdale Town centre.
Try putting it in google maps.

John was living at Brown Street when he married so that 1851 entry looks right for the family! :D

Is it possible to find the 1841 William Howarth machine joiner and family of Calderbrook in any later census ?
I'm looking for a William Howarth joiner who had a son John Howarth married to Ann Sladen at St Chad's in 1839 ( both minors) . This John Howarth become a machine maker/joiner.
Ann Howarth then a widow of  married a John Whitworth.!
Thanks Sue

This seems to be the family who were in Calderbrook in 1841

1851
12 Field Head Rochdale
William Howarth head M 48 joiner
Mary wife 45
James son 23 Carpet Weaver
John son 22 Cotton spinner
William son 17 Cotton Spinner
Charles son 15 Cotton Spinner
Abrajham son 13 cotton spinner
Thomas son 11
Mary ann daughter 8
all b Littleborough Lancs
HO107 2246 384 35

so  this won't be the family with a son John who was married to Betty on 1851 census

There is also this John in 1841
Cropgates Rochdale Lancs
John Hpowarth 37 Woolen weaver
Ann 36
John 14
Rachel 6
Joseph Pratt 19 weaver of woollen
all b Lancs
