Even those of us not researching him might be able to help if you tell us what you already have and what you would like to know   :)

Some of us just enjoy research for its own sake!   :)

Hello Lou,lou,

There won't be a marriage certificate - civil registration of births marriages and deaths didn't start till the end of 1837.

But you can look at parish registers.  Luckily, Norfolk has many images of parish registers online, and free to view, courtesy of the Family Search website.

I had a look for a marriage of William Girling at Watton, and found this one - married to Elizabeth Wright, on the 6 September 1833.  Could he be yours?

Hi again,

I had a look at the 1851 census that shows William Girling and Elizabeth - and all his children - born at Watton.

Found this baptism at Watton, for a William Girling, born 1809 (though baptised in 1811).
Baptised by Thomas Girling and Mary Girling (maiden name Knock).  It looks very likely, do you think?

And also Elizabeth Wright, baptised in 1813, at Watton, daughter of John and Jane Wright

Hello lou,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "the children are all the same" .... ?

You say at the beginning of this thread that you’re looking for a William Girling, born in Watton about 1806.  The entry in the parish register I linked to last time shows the only William Girling born in Watton around that time.

With Elizabeth, his wife, also being from Watton, I would think the marriage in 1833 is correct.

I’ve looked at the 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881 censuses, and it seems William  was pretty consistent with where he was born -  Watton, Norfolk, and his occupation is always Shepherd.  His age varies a bit, but that is not unusual.

The parish registers for Watton show these children baptised by William and Elizabeth Girling -
Louisa, baptised  August 17 1834;
Lucy, baptised March 29 1840
Elijah, baptised 4 March 1846
Though I can’t find a baptism for Lydia.

With the entries in the parish registers tying in with the details on the censuses,  and if they fit in with what you know, I think you can be as sure as is possible that this is the right family.
