COMPLETED Cheapest way to buy a birth cert?
« on: Friday 19 October 12 19:33 BST (UK) »
Hi
I think I have found the man I am looking for and want to order a birth certificate using info from IGI.
I have name George McDougal/McDougall born Apr-Jun Quarter 1880 Boyle, Roscommon
film 101057   volume 4  page 65
Can anyone advise the cheapest and quickest way to order the certificate please?
Many thanks
Paula

Best, and cheapest way is from GRO headoffice by post, see :

   Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon

Film and image numbers on the online Index are internal FamilySearch/LDS references and not relevant to the GRO.

It's a crying shame, coz I only live 20 minutes from the Irish GRO.    I would go there myself for you, but funds are extremely tight now, but I have done in the past.
€3 for a research photocopy is all it is, and the staff are so pleasant and helpful.

I assume you've seen him on the Irish 1901 census........Occ. Gamekeeper.  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000580391/

Sorry I can't help much more.

This maybe way out there, but there is a baptism for a George Mcdougal - 18 May 1880 @ Rockingham, Roscommon.  To James Mcdougal & Maria Trainor Mcdougal.

Rockingham is about 10 - 11 miles from Boyle.

I think that record is actually an extracted civil birth, rather than a baptism

These extracts include parents names, and usually the name of sub-district, but dont include informant details or father's occuation.

Thanks so much Shane and Steve. I don't know why I haven't seen your responses before this - only got a mail today to say it had been moved then saw the replies.
I did find him on the census thank you, and that birth looks right too - his mother's surname was Traynor, spelt a little differently but it must be him.
Many thanks to you both,
Paula :)
