Ordnance hospital, Coventry abt WW1
« on: Monday 22 October 12 20:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have a postcard sent to my G Aunt at the Ordnance hospital ,Coventry. Can anyone tell me anything about it please?- She was a munitions worker [near Annan, Scotland I think]. I know she died of Pthisis in 1921 age 28. Family attributed her ill health to her work in the munitions factory . Date not on postcard but imagine it would be around 1914-1921. Thanks.

I imagine she worked in the White and Poppes factory who filled shells etc and some suffered sometimes fatal accidents in explosions. I must admit I have not heard of an Ordnance Hospital in Coventry.
Some information may be found about the various factories at http://curve.coventry.ac.uk/open/items/e7fac4cd-1dbe-c86e-4df0-608d09016ad3/1/batchelorcomb.pdf
and of the Ordnance Factory at  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coventry_Ordnance_Works
If you click on http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1307547/Loose-women-looting-murder--darker-Blitz-Spirit.html
you will read about the hospital near the Ordnance Factory which is probably the one you are after.
