Elm Lodge, Clifton St, Laugharne

My great aunt, Anne Jones Harry, was working for a Mrs Mathews at Elm Lodge, Clifton Street, Laugharne on the 1901 census, by 1911 they were living at Clifton House.

Does anyone know if Elm Lodge is the same as The Elms today - the large house on the bend where Clifton Street meets King Street - or was it another property altogether?

I believe you are right. The road opposite leading down to the river is the area known as Mill Lake. So the recorder must have gone there next after taking details of the houses at the top, including Elm Lodge/The Elms. Clifton House exists on Clifton Street but I am not sure where, it is on postcode finder, which says it is near the garage. The big house in that area is Upton House. It is different to Elm House on King Street. The same road changes its name 5 times just within Laugharne.

Laugharne used to be known as upper and lower. Its people referred to as Lords and Ladies in Upper Laugharne and Cats and Dogs in Lower Laugharne of fishermen and cocklewomen. My father's side are from Lower Laugharne.
