Clarney Family

Hello

Could anyone please tell me if the name Clarney originates from Kerry?  I have have traced some ancestors, but my trail goes cold as on the 1851 uk census it says John Clarney is from Ireland,  Could anyone please help by giving me some names or advice on how to go further back with irish records.

You usually require a few more details to search for early records in Ireland. Since the dates involved are before the start of civil records you would need to check for church records for baptisms etc. To do this you generally require a detailed location such as the town, townland or parish.

I dont see any Clarney household on Griffith's valuation (a land taxation survey 1840s / 1860s), with that spelling. Closest matches might be Clarnan or Clarvey ..

There are just a handfull of later civil records with the surname.
