HEARD - Worldwide
« on: Tuesday 30 October 12 03:51 GMT (UK) »
I am about to register a one name study of the Heard family and they say I must "embrace the name globally" so I have a mammoth task ahead. I am trying to get a database starting with facts then trying to tie these in with census etc. so it will be as accurate as possible. I know there are many trees out there that are inaccurate. Eventually I will have a fully searchable website, but still a lot of work ahead.
I am concentrating on Devon and Cornwall at the moment and that has already taken me over most of the UK, Ontario and Victoria, Australia. Once I have these families sorted as well as possible, I will register with the Guild and they allow me to have a basic website.
I am only recording basic details, date and place of birth, marriage and death.
I would be particularly interested to hear from Heards in the Essex area - the next largest concentration after Devon and I have very little knowledge of the Heards in that area.
Even a small family tree can mushroom. One of my Devon ancestors went to Tyneside, had a very large family and is responsible for most of the Heards in that area.

I really need help as in the UK alone I have over 100,000 entries to sieve through. census to wade through and enter into the programme. I would really love to see this up and running with an interesting web site and for me the bonus would be that the guild hold the information so it is not lost when I die.

Thanks a lot

Barbara

Welcome to Rootscaht Sue.

Barbara has not been on Rootchat for a while but if her email address hasnt changed she will get notification of your posting.

I had a look at your Charles.
1871 Census the Family is under HEARST (I noticed Trees did not have this Census)

Do you need help tracing back with Robert/Elizabeth Heard nee Skinner?
Or are you just wanting to find other descendants of the Family?
From FreeBMD Marriage Reg I see Margaret was nee O'Leary

Trish :)

Hi again Sue,
Just a reminder that 1841 Census does not record pob so Robert may have been born somewhere else in Devon.

Baptisms, Unity Presby. Unitarian Chapel, Topsham, Devon
Under HURD, Parents ROBERT/ELIZABETH;
JAMES, 13 Feb 1803
MARY, 18 Aug 1805
ELIZABETH, 01 May 1808
SARAH 25 Dec 1810
JANE, 25 July 1813
ELEANOR, 29 Oct 1815
ANNE, 20 Aug 1818
ELEANOR, 22 Oct 1821
ROBERT, 29 June 1823
JAMES, 05 June 1825

Marriage of Robert HEARD to Elizabeth MARSHALL, 17 March 1802, St Margaret, Topsham has him as a Shipwright.

Source of above FreeREG

I noticed a Tree with 1841 Census Ref for Robert born c 1781 Devon, living in Beaford.
This Robert was a Gunsmith.

Now I presume this is the one you have;
1841, Topsham, Devon;
Robert Herd    60, Fishmonger
Elizabeth Herd    60
Robert Herd    15
James Herd    15
Jane Luxton    20
Sarah Luxton    5
James Luxton    4
Jusan Luxton    2
From a Shipwright to a Fishmonger?

Welcome to Rootschat rayz1948.

There are more Children you have not named on 1841 Census;

Thos Herd, 35, Lace M
Ann Herd, 30
Elizabeth Herd, 14
William Herd, 13
Harriot Herd, 10
Thomas, 7
George, 5
Ann, 3
Jane, 1
HO107/856/11/Beeston

Al though I cant find the Baptism of Thomas I think given names of Thomas/Anns Children this will be his Parents Marriage;
(EDIT, found it below)

20 June 1803, St John the Baptist, Beeston, Nottinghamshire
William HEARD to Elizabeth KERRY
(FreeREG)

Ok;
got it;
Born before Marriage but entry is unusual

Baptism same Church as Marriage;
THOMAS, 24 April 1803, Son of William Hurd and Elizabeth Kerry
(entry under Surname Kerry)
(FreeREG)

+ same Church;
31 Mar 1776, HEARDE, William, Parents WILLIAM/ELIZABETH
(FreeREG)

Marriage for William HEARD to Elizabeth HOPEWELL, 18 Feb 1776 same Church
(FreeREG)

Trish :)

Thomas HEARD Married Ann GRESLEY, 9 June 1824, Beeston, Nottingham, England
(Familysearch.Org)

Has to fit in from my earlier info;

1841 Census
HO107/856/10/Beeston
Wm Heard, 65, Publican
Millicent Heard, 55
Elizh Heard, 15
Thos Noble, 10
Mary Kenney, 25, Visitor

1851 we have;
William Heard, 75, Head, Mar, Pauper, Formerly Publican, born Beeston (1776)
Milicent Heard, 67, Wife, Mar, born Ratcliffe
John T Noble, 20, Lodger, Unm Lace Maker, born Nottinghamshire

Cant find a 2nd Marriage to a Millicent though for William.

Trish :)
