I think that you are right with the death of Mary Ann Mathews in 1887 aged 32.

She was born 12 Aug 1855 in Clapham 4q 1855 Wandsworth 1d 365

I found a burial for a John Mathews at Ayr Cemetery (in Brisbane?)
 aged 84 years. - It could be the wrong person

If the latter is the correct Ernest West he was born around 1880.

Ernest West married Muriel Nina Judd 19 Dec 1923.  Ernest West died 17th Dec 1949. They have two Children - Emmeline West and Samuel Harry West (my Dad).  I have just found the grave from the drowning in 1922 which is great news for us.

If this is correct - Emily Elizabeth West and her son are buried at Burleigh Ridge, the grave site is part of the history of Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast Australia. The grave site is at the entrance of Burleigh Ridge Park on the Gold Coast Hwy, not far from Tallebudgera Creek where the tragedy occurred in 1922.

I'm actually not related to this line but helping a gentleman find who his birth grandfather was and he has Judd in his DNA results so I have been putting a tree together for him and I just thought I'd make a comment regarding Samuel Judd and daughter Muriel Nina Judd. If you could check that you have the right Samuel, I have Samuel George William Judd marrying Amy Eliza Louisa Cummin Johnson and having the 3 girls only Muriel surviving, but I have Samuels parents as Robert William Judd and Martha Rees Gettens. Just thought I'd get this checked as it could make a difference in the trees.
Also Andrew West have you taken a DNA test by any chance as your line shows up in his tree possibly a cousin of your grandfather could be the father.
