Hi,

There is a painting -

Nelson Receiving the Surrender of the 'San Josef' at the Battle of Cape St Vincent, 14 February 1797 (link below)

It includes James Noble who was Nelson's Flag Lieutenant, presumably this is the James Noble you are researching.

Can I thank all who have responded.  I have the deciphered will.  One last request.  Can anyone help with the Aunt of James Noble who is mentioned in his will.  Her name is Jane Delorest Wheelock who died in Ireland in 1811 but her will does not metion her husband and thus I cannot find a marriage and link the family relationship with James her nephew.  I assume her husband died before she did.  Any help very much appreciated.

Hi Rod,
This might get a better response if you posted it on the Ireland board  :)

Rod, I believe Jane Delorest Wheelock was from Devon (according to the will index) & looking at The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography for James Noble so too the Noble family, so Devon looks to be a better place to look for Jane rather than Ireland.  Do you have the details of James from the Oxford DNB?  He was the son of Isaac Noble & Rachel de Joncourt,

I cannot access the the Oxford Dictionary.  Are you able to send me a copy of the entry?  I have the Noble family leaving Bristol after 1717 and the history of James's Father Isaac in New York where he faught with the British.  When I got the will of James Noble, Vice Admiral, it referred to his aunt Jane Delorest Wheelock and now I have a copy of her will it seems that you are right and it is in Devon.  Any further information you could let me have would be very well appreciated.

Rod, please send me your email address by PM & I'll send you details.
I've just found an obituary for Jane Delorest Wheelock, ' 19/2/1811 - Mrs. J.D. Wheelock, relict of ANTHONY WHEELOCK ESQ,' so you know who she married.

Rod, I think this might be the Anthony Wheelock you are looking for, the brother of John Wheelock!

I have come into possession of a Bible that has a Jane Delorest Wheelock mentioned opposite an entry (name only) of Lord Nelson as a Godfather (maybe to her son/Daughter (Leon?), there is quite a lot of BMD entered re: the Noble/Lamb/Pym family. PM me and I will send photos to your email address
