Thank you for your reply and help. I have now worked out it was not my Emma who became a Hammond. My Emma sometimes used the first name Emily and married John Watkins in Ludlow in 1893. In 1902 she married William Howells in Hereford. I think she died in Ludlow in 1945.

I too initially went for the HOWELLS route from the 1939 Register forename / dob agreed with info known .

But 1911 does not have the correct year of birth, has Emma /Emily told a fib?

The only way you can be certain you now have the correct Emma/Emily is to look at the marriage certificate......

On reflection I think it would have helped us if we had known Emma was also known as Emily

GRO indicates

HANDLEY, EMMA       MORRIS
GRO Reference: 1864  J Quarter in LUDLOW  Volume 06A  Page 544

I only considered Emma might also be known as Emily when I found  Emily and William Howells living in Mill Street. I was surprised as I had only ever known her from birth as Emma. Perhaps she did not tell her husband her correct age. Many did not as we know.

Thank you, however still think you need to confirm this with the marriage certificate.

Yes the marriage certificate is the only conclusive way to go now.  :)
