Hi all. Stumbled on this site after searching Pottage. LizzieL: John Samuel and Elizabeth are my 3x great grandparents with their daughter Sarah Ann, being the family line I'm linked to. I have a very excited 95 year old Grandma (Sarah's Grandaughter!) who relishes hearing things about her ancestors, so anything you can tell me will be greatly appreciated!

The person who has done most research on the Pottages is Julian, who has contributed earlier in this thread. Although he hasn't been active for a few months, your response to this thread should notify him that a message has been posted. Have you gone back further than John Samuel and Elizabeth Carr? I am really stuck on Elizabeth's mother. I know she was Sarah Freeman born in Ripon about 1796 from census info, but I can't find anything more.

Wow! Thanks for the replies Rachel & Lizzie & Julian - I'd completely missed them until an email came today! Sorry.

I would love to have copies of John Samuel Pottage's marriage cert if poss. (and any others).  If you are able then I'l DM you my email address.

Ethel was my wife's paternal grandmother so I think that makes you Rachel and my wife, Melanie (Mel) 3rd cousins!

I've not gone any further down that line yet - I've been concentrating on the Pottage/Wood line for my Grandma. My family tree passion has been reignited after catching up with elderly relatives at a funeral today who have been feeding me their memories!

Sorry to hear of your recent loss. I have some information on that side of the family, most from another distant cousin descended from Sarah Ann. I don't think he belongs to Roots Chat. If I can find a recent email address for him that works, I will suggest he joins. When you have made 3 posts I can PM you some information. I am trying to make it into sensible and readable format from my ancient family tree maker  software

Hello there dear researcher, Elizabeth Carr born Tockwith is amongst other people related to me in a long line of people who go back to Wylliam Carre born 1573  in Tockwith and his Father before him Carre no first name mentioned or date of birth. Wife not mentioned, Daughter Anne Carre. All of the Carr family from Tockwith are connected to me although on my time line there are gaps here and there .

Re Carr family Tockwith, Bilton Ainsty Yorkshire. Hello dear family member nice to hear from you. Sorry do not know your name, am Michelle Maher ( nee Carr ). Carre born Cattal Yorkshire is my Great, Great, Great, Great, Great grandfather. Wylliam Carre born 1573 Tockwith is my Great, Great, Great, Great grandfather. William Carr my Great, Great, Great grandfather as I recently found out was born in Cattal  in 1800 and  he and Sarah Freeman were married 23rd November 1817 in Tockwith. Children,  Anne, b. 1820 John b. 1821  ( Elizabeth b. 1824 she married John Samuel Pottage. ) Jayne b. 1826  ( Amos William Carr b. 1829 my Great, Great Grandfather ) Thomas b. 1831 Harriet b.1835. John Samuel Pottage b. 1828 and Elizabeth Carr b. 1824 married in Leeds in 1851. Father, Joseph Pottage, Mother Elizabeth Ridley.
