McTaggarts of Caven
« on: Tuesday 13 November 12 22:28 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace the  history of the McTaggarts, I have place names of Lissenover, Darrycasen in Caven, I gather this was quite a big family who lived there in the 1800s thru to the 1930s or later. any posts would be useful.

Hi,
I believe that the spelling of the areas you are looking at are LISSANOVER and DERRYCASSAN.

Regards
Stewart, Irwin, Morrison, Haslett, Murrell - Dungiven area Co. Londonderry
Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh
Neil, Smyth _Co. Antrim

If you could give us any names, dates and details you already have it would save us from searching for information you already know.

Thanks for the replys, apologies for my poor spelling.
I have the following details:
William McTaggart(or McTeggart) born ? Died 17/01/1898, married Mary ?, born ?,died 5/09/1906.
They had 3 children(at least) : Peter b.1887 d.1977 in Darrycasson. Mary Anne b.? d.1963. William b? d 1968.
Peter married Mary Jane Gilroy 1888-1924. I think they had 9 children, James,Thomas,Patrick,Bridget,William,Hugh,Peter,Francis,Philip.
I will apologise up front for the next one I case the spelling is incorrect, I have a church named Kilnavart? that appears every now and then.
I also have seen McEnTeggart, so I am not sure if the name shortened over time, once again thank you for the interest.

To fill in a few of the gaps-

William McTaggart(or McTeggart) born ? Died 17/01/1898, married Mary ?, born ?,died 5/09/1906.
Death for William gives age as 50 so born c1848-
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FTDJ-HYH

1901 census- Mary and 2 children as Taggart- Derrycasson is the townland and Lisanover the D.E.D.:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cavan/Lisanover/Derrycasson/1057609

Census age makes Mary born c1871 but found a possible death 1 year off the date you give-

There are still McTaggarts living in Lisanover. I am gone from the area for years so I am not able to give you any details. I'm sure some of them are on facebook,or you could send a letter to McTaggart family,Lisanover, Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan. and you could get a reply from them
