James/Alexander NICOL & Grace HARVEY

Hi everyone,

I posted here some time back searching for details on marriage & children of James Alexander NICOL (b. 1794 Abercorn, West Lothian) & Grace HARVEY (b. 1798 Aberdeen).

I only had details of their one son James (my GGgrandfather - whose details I have as b. 3 Jul 1830 in Cramond, parents James Alexander NICOL and Grace HARVEY).

There were no replies to my post and I hesitated to re-post until coming across the following on LDS site -

James NICOL b. 3 Jul 1830 Abercorn, West Lothian, parents Alexander NICOL and Grace HARVEY
Alexander NICOL b. 5 May 1832 Uphall, West Lothian, parents Alexander NICOL and Grizzel HARVIE
John NICOL b. 19 May 1833 Kirkliston, West Lothian, parents Alexander NICOL and Grace H.

I'm wondering whether you think it is safe for me to continue to assume they are all the same (and therefore my) family.

And would you have any ideas on why I cannot find James/Alexander and Grace's marriage and death details?

Added - in 1851 looks like James Nicol is with Matilda Anderson , married 1852 ?

I note the age/birthplace of this Grace does not match with what you have

Thanks Ev. I don't think the Gowans are connected, at least it's a name I haven't yet come across.

Yes my James did marry Matilda Anderson and they emigrated to Australia in 1853. I can trace them since they got to Australia. I haven't found anything on their marriage though, can I ask where you got 1852?

Matilda gives her birthplace as Lasswade on the 1851 Census.
At least one online tree has the original record which is a proclamation to marriage
