Patterdale Parish Records Look Up

In 1764 (May) a son of Solomon Grisdale was baptized. Can anyone who has the original records please tell me the name of the child?

Also in 1780 Solomon and Ann have a son, is the name really Simeon?

Hi there

I don't have the original registers but from https://familysearch.org parish record extracts for Patterdale the 1764 baptism is for Thomas. In the familysearch Bishops Transcripts for Patterdale it does say Simeon was bap 1780.

If this is the same Couple that Married 1747 I doubt they would be having a child in 1780.

Yes this is the family of Solomon and Ann Bewsher. Except the two Martindale ones who are two of the ten children of another Solomon G and his wife Ann Lowther.


The problem is that Solomon and Ann Bewsher also had a son called Solomon who became a curate in Kirk Merrington and who Solomon senior mentions in  his will. (I know 'all' about this Solomon but can't find a definitive baptism.) Also this 1764 son Thomas didn't seem to exist!! I know what happened to all the other children. Where did you get Thomas from? The Bishop's Transcript (probably) or the original Parish records?

Re Simeon, the 1780 one went to London and died there and I've no idea who his reputed parents Solomon and Ann were? Also I've seen this 1754 Simeon son of Solomon and Mary as well... I think it's a mis-transcription on somebody's part. I know of no Solomon and Mary at this time.

I have no access to Parish Records I just found the entries on F/S.

FreeREG has Soloman as a Witness to a few Marriages in Barton, not that this helps though!

I have transcribed the original parish registers for Patterdale and Thomas was definitely recorded as being baptised 26-May-1764, the son of Solomon Grisdale and Anne. Other children baptised were Anne (01-Mar-1749) and Elisabeth (12-May-1754). Simeon was baptised 18-Dec-1780, the son of Solomon Grisdale and Mary. Elisabeth/Elizabeth was buried 17-Apr-1755.
