Help."HPSF.exe has stopped working.HP Pavilion g6 Laptop.
« on: Monday 19 November 12 10:04 GMT (UK) »
"HPSF.exe has stopped working. This application has encountered a serious problem and must close."
Hi, despair is setting in, can anyone help?

I've had a HP pavilion g6 series laptop (Windows 7) for about 6 months now and just recently managed to install  HP updates .

Last evening I got a message saying more updates were available & to install - which I did.

I've since been getting the following error message:

"HPSF.exe has stopped working. This application has encountered a serious problem and must close."
click 'okay' to automatically restart the application".
I click 'okay' and the window then closes but does not restart.

I did a System Restore about 2 hours ago, which took it back to just before the event but nothing has improved, I'm still getting the same message.

I suppose I could shut my eyes to the Red Circle with the large ! mark that has appeared on my toolbar but the problem wont go away.

I'd really appreciate some advice if possible please.

Thank you

Barbara.

yep...  KGerrard has hit it on the head and you are not alone.

Uninstall and reinstall using the link provided in the last post.

Hi KGerrad & jc26red,

Thanks both very much for your help. I have uninstalled and re-installed using the link you gave and all seems o.k.

I'm left with a small puzzle though  ???

When the HPSF problem appeared, a small message also appeared on the bottom left of the screen, just above the Windows logo, which said "javascript:void(o);

That message is still there but I haven't a clue what it means.

Has something vital possibly disappeared from my system/programmes? or do i just ignore it.

Very grateful for your help.

barbara.

Hi Barbara,

It seems that the original problem caused this and should be fixed

Hi jc26red, thanks for the link which I've just been reading up.

Currently the java message has diappeared so maybe the reinstall has settled in but sometimes these things are real Gremlins that reappear when all seems o.k so I'll need to know what to do if that happens.

Am I right in reading that the Scan is free but I have to register and pay for the 'fix' part of the programme?

as its working Barbara, I wouldn't do anything.  The link I gave you was really just to give you an idea what had caused the problem - not to pay for anything.

I'm sure, you could find the same thing for free on the java website.

Best not to tinker too much though Barbara as you are still waiting for your pc to come back.

Hi again jc26red,

I'm thinking exactly that - it seems o.k at the moment so it's definately a case of if it aint broke - don't fix it !!!

The bothersome thing about it is that I only updated it in the first place  because I got an HP on-screen message telling me that HP updates were available to download etc ( and that's when the trouble started !!)

I sometimes wonder if if it's worth messing with updates but I suppose there's no option really - you get problems if you don't update either :-\

I really appreciate the help from yourself & KGerrad.

Thanks both.

Hi, is it possible to delete the "Completed" entry on this post because regretfully the problem is back again.

After uninstalling HP Support Assistantand then reinstallingall seemed o.k.and then I started to get messages telling me that important updates were available and to download them'

I was wary of doing it because that's what caused the problem the last time but the message kept coming back so I started the update procedure as I did the first time around.

Oh dear, same error occurred and i had to uninstall/reinstall again in order to put it right.

I'm now getting messages again, telling me "Important action is needed" and showing the following updates required in HP Support Assistant.

I know I'll have the same problem if I attempt the updates but Where can I get help with this?

I seem to have a Laptop PC that I cannot update but can I afford to ignore the messages?

Anyone else had this problem?

Barbara.
