AVG Tuneup - unable to get rid of pop up.
« on: Monday 19 November 12 11:14 GMT (UK) »
I run AVG Internet Security. I recently accepted a free AVG Tuneup. This showed several things that had been found then it said my one day trial had elapsed and I now keep getting a pop up asking me to buy  Tune up - which I don't want -and whatever I do I cannot get rid of this.

Hello Irene :D
Have you gone into Control Panel> Add and Remove> then looked to see it the AVG tune up is there and delete it?

I think you will need to restart your computer after this.

Sorry if you have already done this.

Trouble is if its in your registry you cant always get it off from there unless you know what your looking for and not advisable unless you know what your doing.

Someone else may have a quicker solution though.

I've just looked there and only AVG internet Security is there - no AVG tuneup.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Thank you for that. I am not too confident to try this myself but my son will be home for Christmas in a few weeks so I think I will let him do it.

Just out of interest, I purchased the multiple license 2 year version of AVG which included the Tuneup 2011 package. I run it at least once a month and it certainly clears up a lot of garbage build up on my system. I have had no problems with at all, and think that it certainly is worth the price I paid.

I only purchased the one year 2012 version. I didn't know the clean up was included in the 2 year package or I may have purchased that instead.

I have the current AVG Internet Security and still have the same situation as you.
I think it was caused by my choice of running the free 30 day trial and within that period I elected to purchase and I dont think that AVG have resolved the 'glitch'that has arisen when someone does this.
Every time I turn on the PC there is a popup Trojan warning from AVG which I delete.
I think this is a 'Come on' which AVG have put there to frighten the people who have done the 30 day trial in order to secure a sale.
I have been in touch with AVG who dont seem able to resolve it.
This is the last message I got from them;
Dear Joe,
....................................................................

Thank you for your email.

To fix this problem, we might have to try something different with the Rescue CD. However, the version of the Rescue CD you have is an older version, and doesn't have the right utility.

Please download and burn a new copy of the CD, using the first parts of the guide linked below:

http://www.avg.com/au-en/51.num-2720#num-2720

Once you have done this, please let us know, and we can provide instructions on how to fix the problem for good.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Regards,
............................................................
I hope this gives you some hope of reolution.
Joe
