Hello Marj

I know a very long time has passed since you posted your request.  May I ask please if Edwin Billington married Elizabeth Moss?  Edwin being the grandson of Thomas Billington and Hannah (Ann) Hilditch?  Thomas and Hannah are my 4xgrt grandparents.

In 1881 Census and 1891 they are living at 13 Sycamore Place, Ancoats, Manchester.
1891 Elizabeth is now a widow.
1901 Census Elizabeth is living at 4 Jessie Ann Street, St George Manchester.
I was also unable to locate the family in the 1871 Census.

The question I have is do you agree on the following children I found baptised with parents Edwin and Elizabeth Billington:
Richard, 2nd Richard, Sarah, Edwin, Mary, Eliza and Thomas.

Thank you, marthaannie

Hi Marthaannie,
Thank you for your reply,

In 2005 I was helping my husband's cousin with his family history, so I think it was him connected
to the Billington's. all the info I had I gave to him.

I have just checked on A......ry there is a marriage for Edwin to Elizabeth Moss
29/12/1857 at Prestbury,  his father was Richard Billington.

Do you have any Winstanley's on you tree my husbands cousin is also connected to the Winstanley's

Hope this helps

Hello Marj

Thank you for your reply and interest.

Yes, Edwin Billington and Elizabeth Moss did marry on 29.12.1857, the ceremony took place at St. Marys, Nantwich, Cheshire not Prestbury.

I do have three with the surname Winstanley on my tree, parents May Crompton and Thomas Winstanley, Brian, Thomas and Sylvia.

May Crompton's mother was Sarah Ann Crompton (Jenkinson), when her husband James Crompton died, Sarah Ann Crompton remarried an Edwin Billington in 1923 at Chorlton Register Office.  Without purchasing the certificate, I am finding it difficult to locate Edwin's father.  I have been trying to find out if this Edwin Billington is connected to the Nantwich family of Billingtons.

Sarah Ann and Edwin Billington had three children from their marriage: Edna M., Edwin F. and Ethel Billington.

Would you remember if your cousin mentioned May Crompton's brothers and sisters from her mother's second marriage?

Hi Marthaannie,

The connection to the Billington's of Nantwich is Mary Billington b. 1867 daughter of
Edwin & Elizabeth nee Moss.

Mary married James William Jenkinson 3rd Sept 1887 witnesses was Edwin & Sarah Billington
Mary's brother and sister ?

I will ask Tom Winstanley if he knows about his mothers siblings and let you know.

I still have his tree on a disc but  the  2nd marriage for Sarah Ann only shows ? Billington
no children added to the couple.

How are you connected to the Winstanley's ?

Regards Marj

Hello Marj
I have sent a reply to your pm and printed out a page from my Billington file to show you the Winstanleys connection.
We are all descended from my 5 x grt grandparents Hugh Billington and Margaret (Minshull), Hugh's occupation was a Hatter in Nantwich, Cheshire.
