The RootsChat LEXICON of Genealogical Terms, Phrases and Abbreviations
http://surname.rootschat.com/lexicon/reflib-lexicon.php

Here you can find explanations and discussions about some "often asked about" Words, Phrases and Abbreviations found in Genealogy and Family History. These may be in Census images, BMD Certificates, Parish Registers, Wills, military documents or other sources.

You can search for terms alphabetically, or according to category.

The links in the lexicon and catalogues point to RootsChat topics, where these terms are explained and discussed.
Some of these topics supply other links to topics or external sites with more information.

The RootsChat Topics Catalogues
http://surname.rootschat.com/lexicon/reflib-topics.php

These are lists of topics related to particular themes and special interests.

The RootsChat Time Lines
http://surname.rootschat.com/lexicon/reflib-timelines.php

These are time lines to some genealogically important events, which may have,
directly or indirectly, influenced the lives of your ancestors.

You can filter events by country and/or category.

See Topic: An Idea: Genealogical Time Line

A List of Useful (external) Links
http://surname.rootschat.com/lexicon/reflib-useful-links.php

This is a list of links to some of the most useful, most-used genealogy websites.

The links are 'tagged' by categories, to help you find relevant links.

It is not a complete list, and it is not intended to make it into one !
Think of it as a Top 50 Sites or Beginners Links or a generic genealogical Favourites list, or .... whatever.

TIP: for even more links, click on the category: Link Lists !

The "1901 Leftovers" Site
http://1901census.rootschat.com/

This a collection of transcripts from the 1901 U.K. Census.
Once you have downloaded a page from the 1901 U.K. census, and transcribed your family,
you are invariably left with other families on the page, which may very well be of use to someone else.
So various transcribers have donated their "leftovers" to this site, to help you search for your relatives.

and some media events which have captured the imagination of RootsChatters,
resulting in many discussion and/or research on these events.

November 2012: The newest Reference Library Project:

The Database for Special Interest Groups (DBSIG)
http://surname.rootschat.com/lexicon/dbsig/index.php

Looking through various topics, we can see that there are often families involved in particular trades or
professions for several generations, who then tend to be in contact with others of the same trade.

Here you can search by surnames or locations, set up links to others in the database, and,
if you find common ancestors, you can add your own name as Researcher to records submitted by others.

Read the DBSIG Help-Page to get some ideas of what the database contains.
