The Elliott family of Bramley / Tadley / Motrimer
« on: Monday 26 November 12 01:42 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find the connection between members of my family I know to be related, but no one can remember how!

My great great grandmother was Mary Elliott (b. 19 April 1840, Stratfield Mortimer). Her father was Thomas Elliott (b. 8 Feb 1809, Bramley) and her mother was Harriet (I think Rivers) - they were married 2 Dec 1830, Priors Dean. I believe Thomas and Harriet had around 9 other, but the only other name I know is Rose (31 July 1853).

Then, there is the branch of the family we have stayed in contact with, within living memory, whom my father always referred to as cousins. They are the children (same generation as my father, so probably born around the early 1920s) of a David Elliott - a farmer from Tadley / Little London.

Does anyone know how Mary Elliott and David Elliott were related? I'm sure I once knew but sadly never wrote it down.

Thanks so much keyboard86 - I didn't have any of that census information (just had the 1881 one).

The David Elliott must be a diiffernt one though, as I'm guessing the David Elliott who was the father of my father's 'cousins' must have been born around 1900 (his eldest Elliott cousin was born circa 1921).

Hi again, following Charles Elliott from the 1891, we have in 1901:-

Charles Elliot 33 occ Farmer b Pamber
Elizabeth 34 occ Dressmaker
Sarah Ann 68 Mother/Widow
Ruby 11
Percy 8
Jessie 7
DAVID 6
Rosa 3
Henry Bushell 62 Widower/Boarder occ  Farm Labourer
All other than Charles b Silchester
Residing at Pamber Farm, Pamber
Census Ref RG13/1110/38/2

I think the maiden name of Elizabeth is possibly Cottrell.

Here are the baptisms for Thomas & Harriet's children that I have found so far:

David baptised Bramley 8 May 1831
John bapt 17 Mar 1833 Pamber
Thomas bapt 17 Jun 1835 Bramley
(for good measure they seem to have had the poor child done again in Pamber on 28 Jun 1835)
Jesse bpt 8 Oct 1837

Thanks again Keyboard86. That David may well be my David! if I can find a link between him and Mary Elliott's father, Thomas Elliott, the mystery will be solved  :)

Thanks Nell - that's great.  :)

I was wondering about subscribing to one of the sites where you pay to view records. Are they all much of a muchness, or is one more worthwhile than the others?

Hi again, well as Mary in 1851 has a brother David aged 19, who in 1891 is aged 59 with wife Sarah A aged 58 in the household of a Charles aged 24 shown as son, with wife Elizabeth, and that son in turn in 1901 has a son called David b c 1895 and in the household is also a widowed Mother Sarah Ann aged 68, then it looks pretty conclusive that Mary's brother David, is the  link to the David in the 1901?

Oh wow! So it does! I'd have taken ages to see that (after writing it all out), lol. Distant cousins indeed - how lovely they remained so close over all those generations. Thanks so much  :D

Hello all,

Is there any history that exists where the Elliott family lived at Elliott’s Farm (now Silchester Farm), on Little London Road.   I’ve heard it used to be a 1000 acre farm linked to the Stratfield Estate, former piggery.

I’ve looked through the records of all the Elliott family, however seems they are linked to a farm on Frog Lane, not Elliott’s Farm specifically.

Any information would be very much appreciated.  Really want to track back it’s history (we’ve moved in to the house).

Thank you.

Al.
