WALKER and BROWN - Can't find a marriage in NSW in the 1920's
« on: Wednesday 28 November 12 02:41 GMT (UK) »
Hello Everyone,

I am having trouble trying to trace a marriage record for WALKER Henry David (or Harry) and BROWN Margaret (or Madge) Florence.  The marriage happened in the 1920's (or possibly early 1930's) probably in Sydney.

Any ideas?

Hi AB :)

Where have you looked already for the marriage?
Are you certain that it happened, and that it happened when and where it did?

Hi there Prue,

I have looked on the NSW BDM online site, and found no record with every combination I can come up with.

Their son, Trevor Alistair WALKER, was born in 1929/1930 and thought to have been born in Sydney.

On Madge's death certificate it says she married in Sydney in the mid 1920's (but that information came from Harry and Madge's grand daughter), as that is what she put on Madge's Death certificate, but I don't know how accurate it is.

A person on Ancestry has submitted the following marriage as being Henry's first in 1908:

11853/1908
WALKER,    HENRY D
RILEY, ETHEL I
at PETERSHAM

Do you know if this is correct?

I do not see a divorce for this couple up to 1930 on NSW Archives indexes, and Ethel Isabel WALKER is alone on the 1930 electoral roll.

Hi Debra,

Yes I also found that marriage too and I don't know if it is correct.  I believe that the Henry I am looking for was born in 1885, so he is definitely old enough to have married for a first time in 1908.

I also couldn't find a divorce record for Henry and this first marriage to Ethel Isabel Riley????  Interesting that you found Ethel by herself on the Electoral Roll in 1930.  This could imply it is the same Henry.

I did find a death record for a Henry Walker in 1945 in Horsley Park, which could fit given that Madge re-married in Victoria in 1953.

AB,
In order to search well, the helpers always appreciate the names of parents and birthdates etc.

Is this the man? You mention a birth year of 1885
