I still haven't had my photo returned so can't repost yet, but I was itching to have a go at playing with a picture so...
We were recently loaned a picture of my husband's late mother so I decided to play with this.  I know the details aren't very good, I cannot for the life of me control this stupid mouse, but I would like to know if I've got the right idea.
So, opinions please on my first attempt at colouring.

Regards
Sandie

PS I did attempt to add one of those blurs, but the mouse was going all over the place so it just looked a mess and I gave up and left it!

PPS:  I have tried to attach the picture,  I got a message telling me I'd timed out and to try again, which I did, the post was there but no picture, so please bear with me while I try again.

Ken

I am really, really sorry.  I thought I had responded to your reply the other day, but when I was scrolling down to post my picture I realised I hadn't.

You made a great job of improving the picture, it definitely looks a lot better.

Apologies again for not responding sooner.

I have finally got the picture back!

I have rescanned it, but can't attach it.  I keep getting messages saying it's too large.

I went to irfanview to resize.  It said it was 1089 x 687 pixels.  I didn't understand that so went to paint.net which said it was 249.1 kb so I tried posting again, got same message.  Went back to irfanview and resized again, checked size on paint.net this time it said 189 kb.  Tried posting again, got same message -I posted a request on technical support earlier - I have just tried attaching it again and ... got same message.

I think I might have to leave tonight as I'm getting the urge to hit the computer with a large heavy object!

Thank you!  I'm blowed if I know what I was doing wrong, I'd posted the other two without too many problems, but this one...

Thanks again

Sandie

Sorry, I replied before reading your PM.  I won't pretend to understand, but at least I know where I went wrong.  Thanks for explaining.

Hi All

I know I should have been patient and waited for advice, but decided to have a go at playing with the picture Ken posted for me

Now, as you can see - if I've actually attached the picture this time - I haven't been too successful, but it is only my third attempt at repairing and second at colouring so I didn't really expect much.

What I would like to know is a) what am I doing wrong and b) how do I put it right?

Any help greatly appreciated, but  take note, you will be instructing someone who is a complete idiot when it comes to this subject so pleeease tell me as simply as possible.

Thanks

Sandie

I have only been doing it for about a month but I have found playing around to get to know the program a bit and what it can do has paid off. At the weekend I bought a brilliant book. I can follow it easily now. If I hadn't done the experimenting bit and produced some disasters (then reverted to the saved copy) I wouldn't be able to follow the book so easily. As well as the wonderful guidance of people like Deadants and Vikki it all comes down to practice and learning from your mistakes.

I think your attempt is brilliant. The colours may be a bit too strong in the faces and the mans jacket isn't quite right either but the experts will put you right on that. The next step is probably conquering layers and feathering the edges but that will come in time.

Keep at it.

Jane

Thanks for the encouragement.

I know what you mean about the jacket, I'd played with it for a while, until I started to go crossed eyed, that's when I gave up and played with the colours instead.  It seemed the more I tried to improve it the worse it got!  As you say though, we learn by our mistakes and I look forward to the day I can produce something that looks as it should.
