a puzzling puzzle
« on: Saturday 08 December 12 22:06 GMT (UK) »
I'm hoping someone can help me work this out.
Goldsworthy is a main line in my tree but this branch isn't but it has me intrigued.

Joseph Goldsworthy PHILLIPS b. 26 July 1868 Talisker South Australia, second child and son of:
John PHILLIPS and Elizabeth (Mary) GOLDSWORTHY
married: 1947 Sydney New South Wales Australia
Emily Janetta GOLDSWORTHY b. 28 Feb 1880 in Moonta, South Australia, tenth child of:
Joseph Henry GOLDSWORTHY and Mary Thomas GLASSON.

Joseph Goldsworthy PHILLIPS had a sister by the name of:
Emily Janetta PHILLIPS b. 28 August 1874.

This seemed too much of a coincidence to me so I delved deeper.

I have no idea where Elizabeth GOLDSWORTHY was born except that she married John PHILLIPS in Helston between July - September 1866.

Now to look at Joseph's wife's lineage....

Mary Thomas GOLDSWORTHY (nee) GLASSON's mother was Jannetta BATTEN who was b. abt. 1818.
Mary was b. between January - March 1846 in Hayle, Cornwall.

My puzzle is....how do I link up (as there must surely be one) Elizabeth GOLDSWORTHY who married John PHILLIPS to Emily Janetta GOLDSWORTHY her daughter in law.

To make matters more confusing for me, I found this old post on another list:

Susan GLASSON was b. 1818 in Hayle, Cornwall.
She sailed from Plymouth 8 Oct 1848 on the Samuel Boddington arriving in South Australia (Adelaide) 12 Jan 1849 with her first husband Alfred Tobias John MARTIN and two small sons Thomas and Alfred and maybe there were two other children.
Her husband died 31 Dec 1850 in Adelaide and she must have returned to Cornwall and at some stage married William PHILLIPS. She was living in Camborne when she died 18 Nov 1883 aged 64.

Could there be a link with Susan to my Mary Thomas GLASSON?
Marrying a PHILLIP's too !!!

I have information from 1851 census for GLASSON with Mary Thomas in it.

Any help to solve this puzzling puzzle would be appreciated.
I have 4 Eliza GOLDSWORTHY's and 34 Elizabeth's and now 2 Elizabeth M GOLDSWORTHY's in my tree.  I can eliminate most thankfully but I'm just not sure (and need to prove) if one of them links with this puzzle.

You're welcome!
Thought I'd leave you the pleasure of looking things up for yourself!

Cornwall OPC Database is a wonderful site - but coverage isn't 100%.
Might be worth checking the Emigration database - under Extra Searches?
