Guys

I have been able to further refine the family and can now say that:

David Walters b. 1879 Llanelli, Carmarthenshire d maesteg c1960 @ 1901 Census inLlangynwyd Higher, Glamorgan, Wales a boarder.
= (March Q 1904 Bridgend) Elizabeth Ann Rees b. 1881 Nantyffyllon, Glam (d of Thomas Rees and Mary Elizabeth Morris) d. June Q 1928 Bridgend
+ David J 1905 + Melinda May 1907 + Doris Evelyn 1909 + Thomas Rees 1901 & 1912 + Randall 1912 + Llynfnwy 1913 + Mervyn 1915 + Mildred Irene 1916

Most of the above children appear in GR - unable to contact.

Does anyone have access to records at Nantyffyllon Wes Meth Chapel or school?

You presumably have the family on the 1911 census hence the names etc but I can't see where Thomas Rees 1901 fits in if the marriage was 1904

I am originally from Maesteg and my father lived with his parents in Nantyffyllon. There is a  a High Street in Nanty and also a Hill Street but no Hill Rd. I have got a vague recollection of my father talking about a Dai Walters. Dai is short for David. I will ring my sister as she is older than me and she may remember more.

I have spoken to my sister and she says that she also remembers my father talking about Dai Walters and she thought that he lived near the Elderbush Pub which is in High Street Nantyffyllon. She couldn't remember anymore. So if it is the same Dai Walters, the address fits.

Late coming into this thread, but I'm rarely on here anymore sadly. The nearest FHS is in Aberkenfig, but the local records office is in Bridgend, and they hold all the electoral role info in the area. There are several Methodist/Weslyan chapels in the Nanty/Caerau/Maesteg area, but I've never had cause to check them for records, so no idea who holds them.

There is no record of Daniel Walters being buried in Maesteg cemetery, so assuming he stayed in the area, he's either in Llangynwyd (again, records in Bridgend and Aberkenfig), or some of the chapels do have small burial grounds, but again I have no idea about records.

He was David - not Daniel.  Bit confusing at start of post as to whether he was David or Daniel but earlier reply gives marriage between David Walters and Elizabeth Ann Rees in 1904

Ah right - 3 David Walters buried in Maesteg:
David Archibald - 16 Jun 1977 (age 72)
David James - 22 Apr 1993 (age 75)
David John - 31 Oct 1989 (age 69)

David Archibald is buried with an Eileen Clare Walters
David James seems to be on his own
David John is buried with a George Walters

If any sound likely, let me know and I'll dig through the records to find addresses, etc

Sad end to my efforts to find this family in Nantyffyllon 1916-1938

Thanks for all you efforts

The lady concerned was thinking of going down to South Wales to try talking to people but very sadly passed away before Chsristmas.

Her husband said she was relieved to know more about her Mums origins but had hooped to know what drove her from Walkes to London at that time.

Too late but thanks for trying guys!

Colin
