If you are happy with what you have why spend money you don't have?
I have the older version of the V500 scanner, must be all of 8years old.

Hello Brian
Thanks for your reply
The reason i was getting a newer or better one as the dell keeps crashing via windows 7 64bit
The new one was supposed to be my birthday / christmas present but thats gone out the window, so
i thought i would treat myself , but stuck on what or which to get.
The main purpose is to copy / edit  upload and keep better copies of my families b&w old photo/post cards

Providing your 'new' scanner has the words photo in it/windows 7 compliant, you shouldn't have any problems.
The more you pay, the more stylish is the unit.
What's making your computer crash, that to me would be the priority.

Just had a look on what you have:
Dell 926 all in one printer/scanner. - Generally a good printer, rubbish for photo scans. ???
V330 epson scanner is a discontinued line. - Replaced by V370
V500 epson scanner, better of the 2 scanners (if you can afford it)
