Modify Posts (completed with thanks)
« on: Saturday 22 December 12 11:34 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to modify one of my posts in the 'old style' Rootschat, but there is no option to do this.

Can anyone enlighten me please, or am I looking but not seeing?

With the new software you now have 24 hours to check your posts for typos etc.
After that they can't be modified.

You can always ask a moderator to correct the worst mistakes.  Unfortunately too many people were using the edit facility to change the information in their posts after further information had been received. This meant that some of the following replies suddenly made no sense.

Hi

Just wondering if this will affect the addition of 'Completed' to a subject line?

Thanks aghadowey that does make sense, also keeps inline with other forums too.

Yes, that was what I was trying to do complete a thread.

You can contact a moderator for that  :)- unfortunately a large proportion of people didn't bother doing that for us in the past.

I do hope it's not too much extra work for the Mods.

However, I think some of the restorers on the Photo board will be dancing for glee, then  :)

Personally, I never saw a reason for 'completed' - there's never a real end, even if it looks so  :-\

It was a shame that some people didn't complete their post, I have always tried to do this as it is unfair for people to waste their time by searching, posting and then to find that the poster in their mind had completed their search.  I remember in the early days of 2005 ish I started by putting the word 'complete' in the final reply of my thread until it was pointed out to me to put it in the title of the first page. ::)

Thanks for the clarification.

At the top of each topic it used to show (for instance this one), Rootschat.com, Beginners, How to Use Rootschat, followed by the name of the board moderator whose name we could click on if we wanted to contact her/him but that name is not there on the new topics, as we cannot report to moderator on our own posts, how do we now contact them to ask them to make a topic Completed?  I know on this topic as you have made a post yourself aghadowey, it is possible to go to the post you have made and contact you that way, but on some topics the mod doesn't contribute.

Modified - The modify link is still there, as you say for 24 hours, and it also looks as though I can report to moderator on my own posting at the moment, does that stay there all the time so that is the way to contact a mod.  In the past we couldn't report ourselves to a mod.

Another modification - Just found below my message a little sign, piece of paper and pencil which I can click to modify, rather than using the word itself at the top of the post.

Hi Lizzie,

there is no particular moderator assigned to this board, we all look after it :)

On moderated boards, the moderator's name is also there to see (I think)
.
just a mo ....

Yes, just checked: it is !!  ;D
