Hi Jo

You really need to include more info to enable people to see if there is a connection.  The 1911 Irish census had 257 entries for the surname Cunningham in Co Clare so can you post details of exactly which Cunningham family are the main subject of your research
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Hi Carole,
At this point i am looking for any Cunningham descendants from or around Labersheeda in Clare. My Thomas Cunningham left Ireland for Australia in the mid 1800's and only appeared to have a sister Johanna, a brother Mathew, his father was Matthias and mother was a McMahon.

Do you have years of birth, even approximate, for any of your Cunningham family ?

Full Civil records started in Ireland in 1864, so for anything before that you would need to check for church records. In addition to the civil records from 1864 onwards, non-Catholic  marriages were registered from 1845 - which might assist your search if for example your Cunningham family were Church of Ireland.

The Catholic parish for Labasheeda is 'Kilmurry-McMahon', sometimes listed as 'Kilmurry McMahon & Killofin', Killofin being the name of the civil parish which covered the town of Labasheeda. Baptism records for this RC parish seem to go back to about 1845, marriages to 1837. Like many Co. Clare parish records these dont appear to be available online.

There are just three Cunningham households listed as holding property in Killofin civil parish on Griffith's Valuation (a taxation survey) - Margaret with a house but no land in Cloonarass townland, John and Thomas also with houses and no land in Lakyle north townland.

see : Cunningham properties, Killofin Civil Parish

The Griffith valuation records for this part of Ireland are dated 1855.

I have some updated info

Thomas Cunningham born Circa 1844 - possibly born Ballina Clare
Travelled to Australia at age 18 1862 with a cousin Thomas Casey Aged 18
McMahon grandmother was wealthy
Younger siblings Johanna and Mathew, f: Mattias (Mathew) Cunningham m: Mary McMahon
Catholic

I'd love to hear from anyone with any connection or knowledge of Cunninghams or McMahons from Kilmurry/Labersheeda area of Clare.

Jo

I am researching a  James cunningham Dillon. He came from Tullycrine Kilmurry Mcmahon. He was born in 1837 and emigrated to New  Zealand about 1860. i have a family of Cunningham,s in the griffith valuations for Tullycrine but have been unable to make the connection. I think his mother may have been Cunningham.

Many Irish Catholic Parish records are now online and would be worth checking for further details-
