*COMPLETED* 1861 Knockbain - Helen Gollan bn 1783/4
« on: Friday 28 December 12 10:45 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me find Helen on the 1861 census, I believe she would be aged c 78 and still in Knockbain?

I also now think she died in 1863 and last have her confirmed with her youngest daughter Helen [McLennan] at Muckernish Knockbain in 1851 but don't have access to A*******.

Grateful for help on census data and if possible to confirm dod 1863 [widow of Donald Gollan] ms Mackay or Mckay if anyone has this lady on their tree.

Thanks mariac

I'm amazed a 28 year gap between 'sisters' did her 'sister' also marry a Gollan or could that be sis-in-law?  Must dig further.

Helen doesn't appear to have had a sister Janet but did have a daughter Janet [Gollan] Forbes of approx the right age bn 1809.

I have just been doing a bit of look around on that also. The census is from A** so may be wrong.
It should be sister in law with the name Gollan ???? :-\

Donald Gollan's sister Janet was bn in 1766 so she ain't 50  ;D  I'm pretty certain this must be her daughter or dau-in-law.  I'm still checking.

Was there anything on A* regarding Helen's death in 1863 Knockbain?  I know it's her because I checked her maiden name on SP last night by a process of elimination, it has to be her but I have no credits left to check it.  Her father was William Mackay or Mckay mother possibly unrecorded.

It definitely says Sister but I think it must be her daughter as she's down as unmarried and 50.

A baptism at Urquhart for Janet Gollan 2 Nov 1809 to Donald Gollan and Helen McKay.
