« on: Thursday 03 January 13 12:04 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Can anyone help me identify the badge on the cap in the photos.
I think they are two brothers?

Thanks

The 1st is Prince Albert`s (Somerset Light Infantry) and the last could be Royal Sussex

Hi Carole.

I would have said that cap badge on the third, or lowest, photograph looks very much like that of the East Surrey Regiment.

Regards,
Scobie

Thanks Scobie.

The more I look at the pics and not knowing anything about the military I have totally confused myself.

The man in the middle pic with the ladies I think is a brother or relative at least.
However, the men in pics 1 and 2 look almost the same but can't be because the badges are different.  Is it possible that it is the same man but at different times and in different Regiments?
Can they do that or are they all WW1 soldiers?

It is possible that a soldier could have served in a number of Regiments, being transferred to make up for losses, returning after injury etc

They are all circa WW1 and it was often the fact that men moved Regiments especially if they had been wounded or ill....once recovered they were sent to where needed. If you have any names then you can check medal index cards online.

Having looked further, I think the lower badge is the 23rd (County of London) Battallion.
The Crown being more proud than the East Surrey

I have down loaded images and I agree with you Eddie.

It is all important fine detail and looking at the crown on the badge it appears to sit just above the star on the 23rd (City of London) Battallion badge whereas the East Surrey badge the crown sort of sits in the star.

I think my Canadian cousin has a couple of possible family names so I am passing on all the info to her. Our family were from West Ham and some moved to Canada so did Canadians come and fight in WW1?

Thanks again
