This is a very strange problem.

It's also a bit like checking if the fridge light stays on after you close the door.

So, I've sneaked back in to see how many postings it's showing me. When I clicked on 'Unread' it shows me a page or so of postings from just after midnight (which is when I left) to now some five hours later.

So that looks about right.

What are the times and dates you are getting on the "Unread", do they tally at all with the time you were last logged in (as in signed in properly, and not viewing as a 'Guest')?

I stay signed in, and am online for many hours a day.
At present I have 22 pages of UNREAD POSTINGS, going back to 11.07 on 29th December.

I logout every day, and having just looked at the unreads in my queue, it seems that any posts after I logged out appear when I check the unread list. Being in Sydney, I had to cross reference the time difference between Oz & UK

I only have 9 pages at the moment, dating back to 3 January.  This is my 3rd time visiting RC today.

I have been up to 21 pages since the changes were made, but hopefully that's a thing of the past.

Some more data:

I always logout when leaving Rootschat and I have set my browser to delete the cache, history and all cookies when I close it.

So I am starting "tabula rasa" each time.
On logging in to RootsChat I usually have unreplied posts from about 1-4 hours before my last logout.

But sometimes, if I close the browser by mistake (or I lose the connection) and have to restart, I will only have the last few posts since the enforced close down in the "unread" list..

Morning Trystan,
Mine are down to 3 pages this morning when I logged on at 08.59 GMT. They time back to 19.20 yesterday. I too stay logged on but it seemed yesterday to make no difference after I logged out completely yesterday.

I apologise for bringing this up but clearly others are worse affected than me. There doesnt seem to be rhyme nor reason in the way it woeks so its a bit mystifying. :-\

It we be good if we could collect some more facts about this.

Suggestion:
Please note down the time when you log out (or close your browser, if you don't log out)
The next time you log in, note the time of the oldest item in the "Recent Unread Topics" list.
Post the times here.

Maybe we can then recognise a pattern.
It might be that we can't "correct" it, but it would be a step forward,
if we could at least say more exactly what we can expect to see in the list.

I'm sorry for being a bit dense here, but I don't understand.  ::)

I can beat the lot of you - I have 3 pages of 'unread' going back to yesterday.....but if I click 'All unread replies' at the bottom right hand side I have 7109 pages  :D

I've never looked at the 'Unread' before - why would I? I logon every day and either look for my 'Replies' or go to the small number of special boards I'm interested in. I already know which boards I haven't looked at  ;D

I expect I'm completely missing the point here - but I don't need all those 'Unread' pages - they must surely be clogging up the system???

Sorry for posting what is probably a stupid query, but I've got my teeth into this now!
