Local knowledge? Manston
« on: Friday 04 January 13 17:43 GMT (UK) »
My wife's father was born in Manston, Dorset in 1913. A contemporary newspaper announcement says it was at 'Old Manor Farm' The birth certificate just says 'Manston'
His parents had married in 1911 in Longburton and, as far as we know, there was no family connection with Manston.
I can see from modern and also from old maps that there is a 'Manor Farm' in Manston (opp. The Plough PH) but was there a separate property - Old Manor Farm - or perhaps it was a nursing home/cottage hospital?
I've looked at the occupants of Manor Farm at the time and their names mean nothing to the family.
Has anyone knowledge/records of the village in the early 20th Century please?
