Nonconformist Church records for the Aberedw area
« on: Monday 07 January 13 18:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi,  Does anyone know if there were any noncomformist Churches in the Aberedw area and also where I could find Church records for them, which would be available to search.  I am looking for the Baptism of my relative who was David Whitney.

Kind regards Diana

Hi

Don't know if this index is any good to you.  Did not see a Baptist church in Aberedw.  However, there may be one nearby.

Have you tried the Genuki site:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/RAD/Aberedw/index.html

It says:
Church and chapel data from The Religious census of 1851 : A Calendar of the returns relating to Wales, Vol 1, South Wales. Ed. by   I.G   Jones, & D. Williams. UWP,  Cardiff, 1976. The names given towards the end of each entry are those of the informants.

Aberedw Parish; Statistics; Area 4300 acres; Population 171 males, 159 females, total 330

Aberedw Parish Church   Attendance - (average) morning 25 + 6 scholars, afternoon 50 + 8 scholars (alternately ?)   1 service in English    "There is no Sunday School in the winter months" W Rupell, Rector

Independents   Licensed 1830     "Part of a dwelling house, not used exclusively as a place of worship"      Attendance - morning 12 scholars, evening 60           David Williams, Independent Minister, Aberedw

Otherwise look at Powys Archives:

Hi both of you and thanks for taking the trouble to reply.  I will study the information you have sent me with interest.  It is difficult doing research when your family comes from a place that you live 300 miles from, so any help is much appreciated.
Best wishes Diana

Hello Omega,

Thanks for that information.  I do usually go to London once a year, as my Whitney family all come from Wales, but my granddad moved from Wales to London around 1908 and joined the Metropolitan Police there, although my grandmother went home to Wales, to have my dad, so he is still officially born in Wales, but was brought up in London, where I was born.  I had a brother who died at 8 months old in 1936, and I found his grave 3 years ago.  He didn't have a memorial, so my brother and I put together to get him one and I go down mainly to see him and tidy up his grave.  I am glad though that my parents moved to Lincolnshire in 1949, as what I have seen of London, I wouldn't like to have to cope with the hectic way of life there now!

Kind regards Diana
