William Wood baptism
« on: Tuesday 08 January 13 14:50 GMT (UK) »
I have been searching in vain for years to find the baptism of my ancestor William Wood. I have found his marriage at St Mary's Astbury, Cheshire  and his death in Yorkshire but his baptism still evades me. :'(

William was born 1810 in Twemlow or Holmes Chapel (adjacent) Is there anybody out there who could point me in a direction to find a feasible baptism for him? There is one at St Michael's, Macclesfield and although he ended up living there he married a girl from Somerford Booths and his first two children were born there and baptised at Marton by Congleton.

Thanks for reading this and I hope someone can help me. :-[ :)

Do you know his father's name? From the marriage cert perhaps?

His father's name is not on the wedding details. Too early for registered marriage (1830) but I have seen the copy of his marriage 29th December 1830 at Astbury Parish Church

I have looked up my notes, the information  I obtained from Manchester reference Library.

MARRIAGE of William Wood to Mary Hancock. Number 863..Astbury Parish Church. Marriage by BANNS 29th December 1830. In the presence of Jabez Handcock (sic) and L Turner. by the curate of Capesthorne - RH Heptinsdale?
That's all it had on the record.

If you look up Twemlow on GenUKI, it says that the parish church used to be St Luke at Goostrey (from 1724!).

Twemlow didn't become a parish itself until 1866, and was formerly  in the Goostrey chapelry of Sandbach parish.
Before 1724, the parish church was St Mary, Sandbach.

:)Many thanks for your response. I am not very savvy about these things so your help is very much appreciated. I will visit Cheshire Records Office and see what I can find from your invaluable help.

Kind regards, retiredjan

Copies also at Holmes Chaple library and Sandbach Library.

I always use GenUKI to see when parishes, and churches, were in existence! ;D
