Thanks Carol that would be fantastic.

My Goater line seems to be predominantly from the Sparsholt, Hampshire and surrounding areas so it would be brilliant to find out how the Goaters came to be in Derbyshire/ Leicestershire and see if I can tie them back to my motley crew.

Thanks so much for taking the trouble to help me, I appreciate it very much.

best wishes

Hi Maria

Sorry no luck with the Goater at the Leics RO.  I checked Ashby St Helens baptisms, also a marriage licence index,  plus the will index.

Good afternoon everyone.

I am sorry that I am arriving at this six years late! I have just started work on the Goater family on behalf of my wife's cousin. Alfred (b 1819 ish) in Ashby dlz is her great x 2 grandfather.

I have:
George Gealer Goater married Sarah Fox 30/4/1810 [records in Nottingham and Duffied]
Rev George Goater 1815 congregational minister Ashby dlz [newspaper]
William Hextall Goater born 1816 in Ashby dlz to George and Sarah, (Congregation registers via Ancestry).
Alfred Goater born 1819 in Ashby dlz [many census returns].
Alfred Goater married Amelia Thurman 1841 (Nottingham) [several records, father's name George]

For me the balance of probability is that these are all inter-related.

Has anyone managed to get any further back.
George Goater could well have come from Hampshire originally. I think that I am right in saying that Congregational ministers moved around every few years. Is there any history of the Ashby dlz Congregational chiurch?

Sorry if this has all ground to a halt but I thought that it was worth asking.

David
