COMPLETED . Thumbs.db
« on: Monday 14 January 13 08:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I don't know how I did it, but in a few of My Documents, this little file is sitting there amongst all  the files I am saving.   When I click on  it, it tells me I am attempting open a file of type Data Base File (db.)
Then it tells me these files are used by the operating system and by various programs and Editing or modifying them could damage my system.  Then it tells me if I still want to open the file, click open with or otherwise click cancel.
What is it and how do I get rid of it or is it not necessary and won't harm anythin?
Kind regards
Bev

Without going into too much detail, a thumbs.db file is a temporary system file set up for a thumbnail photograph.
It's of no real use to you and it is safe to delete it or any future ones you get.
Deleting it will have no impact whatsoever.

Dave

PS - Ignoring it will do no harm either but for housekeeping purposes, I always delete them when they appear.

Hi

If you have a thumbs.db file then at some point you have chosen to display a thumbnail [summary] of each photo in a folder.Windows maintains it in order that time may be saved when it produces a folder display using thumbnails
Deleting it does have an impact if you want thumbnails, windows has to regenerate it.
Where you may have "many" files then you will notice the delay while it works its way "down" the folder.

So, If it aint broke don't fix [delete] it.
