Luke Settle was my 4x gt grandfather.  I have not been able to find out who his parents and siblings were so any information you could share would be greatly appreciated.  He certainly seems to have been a man of many talents.

I also think that Alfred was the son of Ann Settle and an unknown man.

Many thanks.  I will try and obtain a photograph of the Luke Settle shield.  Good to know his memory as a wonderful musician lives on and is celebrated annually at the Festival.

Hello, I don't know if any of you are still on Rootschat but I'm the lass who has the original letters sent from America by Alfred to his wife Mary and sons James, Arthur & Luke. Sorry for not taking part sooner but for one reason and another I didn't have internet access for some years and then I had to change my email address so I never received any notifications about replies or private messages. I've rediscovered all the letters only to realise that I've got another 4 to transcribe The paper is very worn, the ink is very faded and the handwriting is really difficult to decipher... wish me luck xx
