« on: Saturday 19 January 13 14:01 GMT (UK) »
Hello I do not really no where to put this so if its wrong I apoligise. I am looking for info on a Joseph Godfrey b 1852 in Ware no sign of him 1871 census but 81,91,01 he is policeman and 1911 police pension. His first child is born 1873 and on baptism record it states police constable this is all in Bethnal Green he must of moved there after marriage in 1869 in Ware. What records are available to find any more information on him and also I am unable to find a death for him.

Any help welcomed, Thank You.

Hello Thank you Dawn I am having huge problems understanding it though I have downloaded the leavers doc I think but it only goes up to 1892 Joseph was still in Police then till at least 1901 he must of left between 1901 and 1911 but can not find list of leavers for then ?

And Kgerrad no he married Amelia Cawthorn in 1869 in Ware then next time he appears is baptism of daughter Rosabella in 1873 Bethnal Green.???

Thank You both for replys.

Sorry! I disagree! ;D I think it IS him in 1871!

1881 census (RG11, 421, 42, 77) says:

Godfrey, Joseph  Head  M  29  Policeman  b Ware, Herts
Godfrey, Amelia  Wife  F  32  b East Roysham, Norfolk
Godfrey, Anne E  Daughter  F  11  Scholar  b Bethnal Green
Godfrey, Rosabella  Daughter  F  8  Scholar  b Bethnal Green
Godfrey, Caroline E  Daughter  F  8  Scholar  b Bethnal Green
Godfrey, Amelia  Daughter  F  6  Scholar  b Bethnal Green
Godfrey, Florence M  Daughter  F  2  Scholar  b Bethnal Green

So we have Joseph, a policeman, born in Ware, Hertfordshire.
His wife is born in Norfolk - and Adelaide could be an enumerator error?
And a daughter, Ann E born 1870?

Seems a pretty good match to me! ;D ;D

My great grandfather George Speight was a policeman in Bethnall Green in a similar timeframe. Remember that Bethnall Green was next to Whitechapel and some of the activity of the Whitechapel murders happened in Bethnall Green. They certainly would have been involved.

Can't help with your man I'm afraid.
