Catherine WALSH/WELSH b abt 1833
« on: Wednesday 23 January 13 10:28 GMT (UK) »
Looking for information on Catherine Walsh/Welsh.
She emigrated to Sth Aus. in 1854 aboard the Sir Thomas Gresham. These records suggest she was born in Kilkenny. The boat left from Plymouth.
She married Edwin ROWE in 1855 and then died in 1865 aged 32 (cause of death unknown). The immigration records say she was a Dairy Maid (not sure if that helps or not).]
Looking for any information on her but mainly her parents, siblings and birth information.

Does her marriage or death cert show any details of her parents ?

You usually require a more detailed place of birth to search for earlier church records - e.g. the name of the town, townland or parish this particular Walsh/Welsh family lived.

The surname is quite common in the south east, so there could be quite a few different Catherine Walshes in Co. Kilkenny at that time.

Yes that death is correct, I should've looked at the registration rather than getting the date straight from her headstone (which must be wrong). Edwin did remarry. And had another 3 children.
I'm not sure whether her death or marriage certificate would help. In Sth Aus death certificates only show birthplace after 1907. I am not sure about marriage certificates. I'll look inmto it and see if I can find any more info.

Hi Blake if you go to their website you can email them and ask what exactly is on the marriage certificate.
Cheers

Thanks again.
Edmund Cooke was Edwin's brother-in-law. I suppose Catherine had no family in SA so it wasn't in the residence of one of her family members.
