Richard Wake b.1767
« on: Sunday 27 January 13 21:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Has anyone during their research come across a Richard Wake b 1768.could be Northumberland or Durham.
He marries for a second time 28 February 1802 Ann Lock at Christ Church Tynemouth, marriage license gives grocer and flour dealer widower of North Shields.
At his marriage he gives his nativity as Howden.
He and Ann have children Richard 1803, James 1805, Ralph Lock 1806 and Jane 1809 all baptised at Christ Church Tynemouth. (Possibly also a Mary, mentioned in his will )
He died 21 January 1837 and was buried 23 January 1837 at Christ Church Tynemouth a newspaper entry confirms his age at death as 70 and grocer of Tynemouth, I also have his will which leaves his business to the eldest son Richard.
I live in Surrey so employed a researcher to check original documents, her searches revealed nothing no baptism in Tynemouth or Wallsend (covers Howden) or Earsden. I can find no marriage  1785-1801 in Tynemouth nor Haughton Le Skerne. (can't check Wallsend on the internet)
I checked Haughton Le Skerne because there is a Richard Wake born at exactly the right time 1767
whether this is the right one or am I just making the pieces fit.Perhaps finding the first marriage might help.
This is my brick wall, 9 years trying to get over ,round or through it , any help or thoughts  would be appreciated.
Thanks Adrienne

Hi Mike

Thanks for coming back so quickly. Checked the bishops transcripts on www.familysearch and its not there, frustrating. Checked images 299 - 309 (should be on 306) born 20 April and bapt 7 Sept 1800. Is there somewhere else to look, if he's a grocer it has to be Richard 1767.

Many thanks Adrienne

Hi Claire

Many thanks, don't know how I missed it, trying too hard not to miss it and it is especially added at the bottom of the page just for me. Also many thanks for her burial details, again Richard has Howden (I believe is in the parish of Wallsend). Mary Elliot has put her parish as 'Croft', Claire can you help with this at all I have no idea.

Thanks Adrienne

Hi

This may be a long shot but it could be correct (just read your initial post again),

On the notem left in the PR for Mary's baptism, Richards birthplace looks a lot like Houton

HAUGHTON le Skerne,( Durham, district Darlington.)

 baptism

25 October 1767  Richard son of James Wake.

Hi

Croft (on Tees) is in North Yorkshire, right on the border, about 4 miles from Darlington and a couple of miles from Haughton le Skerne (Durham)

Hi Claire

Again many thanks. I kept looking at Haughton Le Skerne, lots of pieces fit, and then you get tunnel vision and make them fit. Off now to find Richard and Mary Elliot marriage (not happy with 4 July 1792 in Caversham Oxford www.familysearch)
Still can't believe I missed Marys baptism, message to self scroll to the very bottom of the page.

Thanks again Claire

Adrienne

Thanks again Claire
