Found these kids to Sidney and Ellen/Helen on a tree but I have my doubts about some of them. She would have been to old to have a kid in 1896. Maybe someone who has access to the Tassie BMD might be able to check.

It looks like the last child on the list, Eric MARSHALL born 1896, was the illegitimate son of Jeanie MARSHALL.  Sidney had a daughter named Jeanie who married in 1914 to Harold HOLMES.

Hi,

1890-91, 1892-93 Tasmanian Post Office Directories.
EPPING FOREST
Marshall Sydney, labourer.

1896-97, 98, 99, 1903, 1904. Tasmanian Post Office Directories
CLEVELAND
Marshall Sydney, farmer.

An 1870 Hobart Town Gazette shows a Sydney Marshall was residing on 40 acres at Cleveland, the owner of the land must have died because the proprietor of the land is listed as D. R. Falkner, exec of the late!

Regards
Gerry

Marriage:
Tasmania 1861 #321 Registered Campbelltown
Sidney Frome MARSHALL
Helen MARSHALL

Seems a bit odd - no maiden name for the bride (although she may have had the same surname as him)

Burial
Helen Mckenzie MARSHALL, 83, died 30 May 1922
Cemetery:   Cleveland Uniting Union Church, Campbell Town, Tasmania

There is a baptism given for a Sidney MARSHALL in Halifax in 1836, with a birthdate of abt 1828.  However 1841 census has two boys of the same name, aged 10 (ages often rounded down in 1841) , listed as born Halifax.  This one has the same parents as those listed on the baptism record.
Living in Halifax
William Marshall   50, currier, (all born in Yorkshire)
Ann Marshall   50
Elizabeth Marshall   25
Fredrick Marshall   15
Sidney Marshall   10

And here's the other one, also living in Halifax, and all family born in Yorkshire
John Marshall   45 stuff pressing? (to do with wool trade I think!)
Mary Marshall   45
Elizabeth Marshall   15 staples wool
George Marshall   15
Mary Marshall   10
Sidney Marshall   10
Nancy Marshall   5

One of these is seen in later census entries so, obviously, he is not the convict man.  Unfortunately in 1851 the one who is still in Halifax is with an uncle so no clues there as to which of them it is.  >:( By co-incidence the one who stays in UK also marries an Ellen!)
