Wesleyan Cemetery, Cheetham Hill, Manchester.
« on: Saturday 02 February 13 09:39 GMT (UK) »
I have recently discovered that several of my ancestors were buried in the above cemetery. Some years ago Tesco built a new supermarket on the site and the remains were moved to a mass grave in Bury Cemetery. Some were moved to Southern Cemetery, Manchester.

Is there a list available of who was moved to where ?

Were there any memorial inscriptions done as it would be of interest to me what was on the gravestones ?

The main person of interest is my Great Great Grandfather George Frederick Daniel who died in 1858 aged just 37.

Thanks
Graham Daniel

Graham - welcome to RootsChat.

I recognised your question as a subject that's come up on here before & did a search.

Cancan put up a photo at the time and then had access to some records:

There's also post #63 on this thread:

There are more, but they give some answers.

In case you've not seen it there are some records (no Daniels) on Interment.net with some photos:

I too am also looking for my father and possibly other members of his family that were buried here.  I have tried to contact Cancan who published a post but am unable to contact them.

If anybody has any suggestions or places that I would be able to get this information I would be grateful if you could reply to this post.

I have been in touch with Bury and they say they don't have any names??

Thank you

Good luck.  If your PM still won't go, just reply to this again, then it certainly will.

The other main stumbling block on here for beginners is they post names of people who could still be alive.  Unless you know for sure they are dead, don't post the name of anyone who was born less than 100 years ago.  When someone does that, the moderators replace the name with asterixes, which makes giving help a bit tricky!

Thanks Cancan,
I've only just seen your reply. I've looked at the microfilms at City Library in Manchester and found quite a lot of 'Daniel's' in that cemetery. Interesting to see what was written on George Frederick Daniel's gravestone as he was my 3 x great grandfather.
