hi there!! I am trying to decipher the meaning of a conviction of a Thomas Hardiker from County sessions, Preston Lancashire, 6th January 1841 for...'dissobeying  the order of two magistrates??' Can anyone tell me what your interpretation of this conviction could be freferring to, or how could I find out.  Thomas spent 6 months in Lancaster gaol in 1841 for the said coviction.  I do know that he  had an illegitamate son "Robert Beesley" to a Jane Beesley, born aug 1839 at Inskip, The Fylde in Lancs. J. (sic) Hardiker of Inskip pleaded guilty to a similar indictment and he was sentenced to six months imprisonment in Lancaster Castle.

Thanks Debra, what a cheeky fellow hey!!! Trying to have his cake and eat it too!! What a great article to find. I presume it will be in relation to  the children he bore to my Jenny Beesley in 1839 (twins), but I wonder  if there is any documentation anywhere that could take it a bit further with names and the family situation etc... any suggestions? british historical newpapers online - must be 2 Thomas Hardikers as first can't be death in 1850!

The license of the Grey Horse Inn, Walton village, was transferred from William Whalley to Thomas Hardiker.

Hi Diddy, I believe my Thomas Hardiker died in Little Eccleston in 1875 at the age of 68.
Thankyou for the articles, I'm not sure if the last two you mentioned are my Thomas or not as I havent seen them. It's always good to have  any stories for chronicaling for reference sake anyway, always appreciated. Thankyou

I can't see any surviving petty sessions records for the right date.

But you could try the Board of Guardians minute books for the Garstang Poor Law Union (held at the Lancashire record office in Preston).
